Humanistic Art? Edward Hopper

In 1981, I encountered the work of  Edward Hopper.

I wanted to use his ‘Nighthawks’ for the cover of my new book: ‘The Making of the Modern Homosexual’: but the publisher did not like the idea.

Since then, the image has almost become a cliche of modern art.
